Teaching aims and demands:

1. To develop the ability to infer the general meaning from title and context.

2. To revise and expand vocabulary in the context story and conservation.

3. To reinforce students’ ability to skim text for overall meaning and scan for details

4. To encourage the students to be brave.

Important points:

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Before reading

T: Good morning, everyone! (show a picture of rabbits.)Look at the picture, what are they?

S: They are rabbits.

(show pictures and teach the new words) They live in holes. If rabbits notice hunters(猎人) passing by, they will run quickly and jump down the hole. Usually hunters and their dogs can’t go through the holes. But if a rabbit stays alone far away from the hole, it may be very dangerous for it. Because dogs will run after it, and sometimes it can’t get away. If hunters catch a rabbit, they will put it in a locked cage. So it is very important for rabbits to stay in holes. One day, a girl found a rabbit hole, and fell into it. Fell is the simple past of fall. Do you want to know what happened to her next?

Step 2 While reading

Fast reading

Read the text quickly and find the answers to the following questions:

1.      Why did the rabbit surprise Alice?

2.      Why couldn’t Alice go through the door?

Read the text again and answer the “True” or “False” questions.

1. It was a cloudy day.

2. Alice was playing with a rabbit.

3. The rabbit asked Alice the time.

4. The rabbit jumped down the hole first.

5. It took Alice a long time to hit the ground.

6.      Alice talked to the rabbit in the hole.

Further reading

    Tell students the text can be divided into two parts.

 Part 1 Para 1~3 (Outside the rabbit hole)

 Part 2 Para 4~5 (Inside the rabbit hole)

    Read Para1-3 carefully, and answer the questions.

      1. Where did Alice see a white rabbit?

2. What did the rabbit do after Alice saw it?

3. What did Alice do after she saw the rabbit?

4. Why did she jump down the hole too?

Step 3 Post reading

  1. Put the sentences in the correct order. Write the numbers 1—8 in the blanks.
